This major design and build mixed use scheme which is currently in progress comprises the construction of the shell of eleven terraced retail units varying in area from 668m2 to 2796m2 and three smaller retail units of 140m2 each in a separate hub building. The units are located in the Nottingham Ikea Retail Park. The works therefore have to be carefully co-ordinated with Ikea and their neighbouring retail outlets, Next and Decathlon, in order to minimise disruption to their operations and also the massive public presence.
Alongside this new retail facility and as part of the same contract, McLaren are also constructing twenty trade and industrial units varying in floor area from 141m2 to 924m2.
As with many McLaren Construction projects an extensive value engineering exercise was undertaken with the client. This included innovative ground engineering solutions and retaining structures plus the incorporation of the "Bubbledeck" system to form the top deck of the basement car park.
Enabling works comprising demolition and the construction of a
500 space temporary car park commenced in April 2007. Project
completion is programmed for 1st September 2008.
