The Giltbrook Retail Park site is situated off junction 26 of the M1, is adjacent to the village of Giltbrook and is situated within a live retail park. The works therefore have to be carefully co-ordinated with Ikea and their neighbouring retail outlets; Next and Decathlon, in order to minimise disruption to their operations and also the massive public presence.
As with many McLaren Construction projects, an extensive value engineering exercise has been undertaken with the client. This included innovative ground engineering solutions and retaining structures plus the incorporation of the "Bubbledeck" system to form the top deck of the basement car park.
Enabling works comprising demolition and the construction of a 500 space temporary car park commenced in April 2007. Project completion is programmed for 1st September 2008.
McLaren have already handed over 2 car parks creating approximately 400 additional car parking spaces which are required for us to take possession of existing car parking.
McLaren are responsible for the construction of an undercroft car park creating 800 spaces which will include lift cores. The car park is constructed out of a Bubbledeck system used for its greater spanning potential.
