Client: Big Yellow Swlf Storage

This project consisted of a two storey basement in a central London location with an 11 metre high Steel framed building made up of cladding, brick and blockwork.  The basement area covered the complete site making the project very tight for space.  The water table was at a depth of 3 metres and the ground was highly contaminated.

The basement was constructed using secant piles to its perimeter with waterproof Caltite concrete walls and basement slab.  The basement walls and floor were lined with a cavity drain system, a further lining wall was then constructed consisting of 140mm blockwork.  The construction of the basement plus the erection of the structural steelwork was by use of a tower crane that was situated in the centre of the build, the area was infilled when the crane was removed.

Other features of the building were a lift shaft from basement to the 3rd Floor, curtain walling to the front elevation, a blockwork service yard over the top of some of the basement area and a mineral felt roof.

The project was extremely tight for space on all elevations with a road closure required for service connections and a licence required to erect scaffold on a Red Route.
