McLaren Construction has been confirmed as main contractor on Tottenham Hotspur FC’s new £45 million Training Academy at Bulls Cross in Enfield, Middlesex.
McLaren has won the contract to construct the main
state-of-the-art training centre at the heart of the new complex.
The building will be used by the first team and academy
squads.
McLaren's site team moved onto the project on July 12th to commence
the construction of the centre designed by Architect KSS Design
Group Ltd (KSS), who are also responsible for the design of the
proposed new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, within the Northumberland
Development Project.
The main training centre building is designed around a 70m x 50m
indoor artificial pitch and also contains a hydrotherapy/swimming
pool, fitness centre/gym, changing rooms, medical facilities,
canteen and media centre.
Preparatory and groundworks on the 67 acre site started last
September.
The complex will contain 11 outdoor pitches which are being
installed under a separate contract by specialist Hewitt
Sportsturf.
Quantity Surveyors, STACE LLP (STACE), played a vital role in
pre-construction work and Anderson Group have been awarded the main
building groundworks and frame packages. Base Contracts will
complete the fitting-out works.
McLaren won the main building contract via a two-stage tender
process and have been working closely with KSS and STACE.
McLaren Chairman Kevin Taylor said: "We are proud to be partnering
with Tottenham Hotspur on this prestigious scheme. KSS have
developed a fantastic design and it will be a premier league
project in every sense.
"Following a rigorous selection process we are pleased to be
appointed and have now been involved with the Academy for over a
year during which time we worked closely with Tottenham and the
design team as to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved whilst not
compromising the quality of this superb facility."
Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy said:
"The new training centre will be the best of its kind in
Europe when it is built and will be important for the club
attracting, training and retaining quality players. The
appointment of contractors for the main building is a key step in
the progress of the development and we look forward to McLaren
working with us to deliver a world class
facility."
Tottenham Manager Harry Redknapp said: "This is a massive club
and this new facility shows that we are continually looking to move
forward and to compete at the highest level.
"It will be terrific when completed. Our players at all levels will
thrive in these surroundings."
